James Reveley Ballagh, "Big Jim", 73, went to be with our Lord on Sunday, September, 13, 2009. He and his wife, Dorothy Painter Ballagh, were married for 50 wonderful years.
Born in Campbell County, January 9, 1936, he was a son of the late James and Judith Ballagh. Big Jim was a member of New Concord Presbyterian Church where he served as an Elder and was Chairman of the Cemetery Committee. He had served for seven years in the Virginia National Guard and for 27 years was an employee of the Lynchburg Foundry. He was the President of J.R. Ballagh & Son, Inc. He loved bluegrass music, Karaoke, and working alongside his son running equipment and moving earth.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a daughter and her husband, Kathy and Randy Bowles, and a son and his wife, William and Anne Ballagh, all of Concord; three grandchildren, Kara Bowles, Ran Bowles and Niki Ballagh; a brother, Doug Ballagh and his wife, Elaine, Rustburg; two nephews, CW4 Michael Ballagh, serving in Iraq, and his wife, Debbie, Rustburg and Steve Ballagh and his wife, Elina, Roanoke. He also leaves behind many special friends.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held 2:00 pm, Wednesday, Sept. 16, 2009 in New Concord Presbyterian Church by the Rev. Emily Larsen with burial to follow in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends at Robinson Funeral Home, Appomattox, Tuesday evening from 7:00 to 8:30 pm and other times at the residence.
