James Howard Almond, 72, of Lynchburg, died on Friday, November 25, 2011 at Lynchburg General Hospital. He was the husband of the late Shirley Wiley Almond. Born April 3, 1939, he was a son of the late Willie Wilson Almond and Edith Harris Almond.
James is survived by three sons, James Almond of Appomattox and his children, Kevin and Kent Almond and Christopher Bryant; Emmett Almond and wife, Linda of Lynchburg and their children, Wendy Almond, Jeremiah McClain and Amanda Wright; David Almond and wife, Cindy of Appomattox and their children, Cody, Corey and Anthony Almond and Justice Wood; one daughter, Holly "Ginny" Long and husband, Rich of Amherst and their children, Amber L. Pugh and husband, John and Sherry and Shannon Long; one sister, Ellen Smith and husband, Charles of Appomattox; and twelve great-grandchildren. In addition to his wife and parents, James was preceded in death by one sister, Iris Cyrus and one brother, Reuben Almond.
James was a member of Tree of Life Ministries and a retired driver for Thompson Trucking.
A graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Sunday, November 27, 2011 at New Hope Baptist Church by Charles "Binky" W. Edwards, Jr. The family will receive friends at Robinson Funeral Home from 7:00-8:30 p.m. on Saturday, November 26, 2011.
