Obituary

Jack Monroe Patteson, aged 94, peacefully passed on October 4, 2024, in Charlottesville, Virginia. Born on March 8, 1930, Jack's life was marked by his dedication to his family, his courage in service, and his faith.

After graduating from Buckingham High School, Jack matriculated to Virginia Tech where he was a proud member of the Corp of Cadets and the German Club.  He graduated from Virginia Tech with a B.S. in Business Administration and later attained an M.B.A. from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

Jack proudly served his country during the Korean War rising to the rank of First Lieutenant as the Commanding Officer, Company B, 31st Infantry USAFFE.  He led his Army platoon through the pivotal battle of Pork Chop Hill and earned numerous accolades for his bravery including two Bronze Stars, a Purple Heart, and a United Nations Service Medal.

Professionally, Jack dedicated many years to Kaiser Aluminum, culminating in his role of General Manager.  After retiring from his career in industrial metals, Jack returned to his roots serving his community as the owner of Patteson's Store, near the family farm, Mount Pleasant (est.1745), in Buckingham County.

A devout member and Warden of Emmanuel Church in Buckingham, Virginia, Jack found joy not only from his faith, but also from his personal life and love for the outdoors. Jack cherished time spent with his family, especially his three children, five grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren.

Jack is survived by his children, Catherine P. Hutchins and her husband, Christopher, of Ocean View, De;  Deborah P. Kanoy and her husband, David, of Williamsburg; and John R. Patteson and his wife, Ellie, of Charlottesville; his sister, Mary P. Morgan of Charlottesville; and his grandchildren Peyton H. Pike (Ryan), Tighe H. Brown (Ned), Duncan M. Hutchins (Cameron), John P. Hutchins (Emily), and Jack M. Patteson along with his great-grandchildren Miller, Nellie, Teo, and Hudson. Jack was preceded in death by his parents, Catherine Lyon Patteson and James Monroe Patteson.

A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, October 19th, at Emmanuel Episcopal Church, located at 7825 Howardsville Rd, Buckingham, VA 23921. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests memorial contributions be made to Emmanuel Episcopal Church at the above address.
