Jack David Layne, Sr., 77, of Chestnut Drive, Appomattox, passed Friday, June 11, 2010. He was the loving husband of Loretta Doss Layne for 57 years.
Born in Spout Spring, on February 5, 1933, he was a son of the late Leavie Estelle Roberts and William Ernest Layne, Sr. He was an administrative clerk for 31 years with Transcontinental Gas Pipeline. He graduated in 1952 from Appomattox High School. Jack was an Army Veteran of the Korean War, a member of American Legion Post #104, the Woodmen of the World, and a life long member of Memorial United Methodist Church. After retirement, Jack spent many years working as a self-employed electrician.
In addition to his wife, Jack is survived by his son, Jack David Layne, Jr. and his wife, Freda; twin daughters, Dale L. Weakley and her husband, Steve all of Appomattox and Gail L. Wheeler and her husband, Tommy of Richmond; one grandson, Ryan Weakley of Appomattox; a brother, William E. Layne, Jr. and his wife, Alice; two sisters, Pauline L. McFadden and her husband, Aubrey and Bettie L. Gaines all of Spout Spring, and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by two sisters, Florence L. Johnson and Estelle L. McFadden.
Funeral Services will be held 2:00 pm Sunday, June 13, 2010, at Memorial United Methodist Church by the Rev. Bruce Johnson and the Rev. Joseph Lotts with burial to follow in Liberty Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at Robinson Funeral Home today Saturday from 5:30 – 7:00 PM and other times at his residence.
