Obituary

Jack L. "PaPa" Butcher, 71, of Rolling Green Drive, Rustburg, died Wednesday, January 19, 2011, in Lynchburg General Hospital. He was the husband of Mary Jo Riley Booth Butcher.

Born in Weston, West VA, on February 23, 1939, he was a son of the late Arthur and Merle Butcher. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Linda Butcher and three brothers, Robert, Ralph, and Wayne Butcher. Jack was a member of Bethlehem United Methodist Church, the Concord Ruritan Club, and served on the Board of Directors for the Concord Community Center. He was a member of the Boy Scouts Board of Reviews and a Chartered Organization Representative. He retired as an engineer with VDOT after 33 years of service. Following his retirement he worked with private engineering firms. Jack enjoyed camping, woodworking, and being "PaPa" to his grandchildren. He was known as "Mr. Fix It" and gave himself selflessly to his community, church, and family. He was a "tell-it-like-it-is" man and you just had to laugh with him. He's probably on Heaven's Board of Trustees because they know he'll get the job done.

In addition to his wife he is survived by two sons, Jason Butcher and wife, Natalie of Aylett and Jarrod Butcher of Richmond; two daughters, Nena Butcher and Sharon Watson and husband, Britt of all of Rock Hill, SC; four grandchildren, Jacob and Jeremy Butcher and Shawn and Lucas Watson; two step-daughters, Cindy Booth Tweedy and husband, Scott of Rustburg and Jodie Booth Culpepper and husband, Don of Concord; six step-grandchildren, Justin and Adam Tweedy, Anna Grace, Aiden, Kenli, and Kailyn Culpepper; two brothers, Rondall Butcher and wife, Anda Lee of Weston, West VA and Richard Butcher and wife, Diedra of Columbia Station, Ohio; and a sister-in-law, Elvi Butcher.

Funeral services will be held 3:00 p.m., Saturday, January 22, 2011, in Bethlehem United Methodist Church by Rev. Dan Dibble and Rev. Tim Earnhardt. The family will receive friends at the church from 1:00-2:45 p.m. before the service. Burial will follow in Signal Hill Cemetery, Mechanicsville at 1:00 p.m., on Monday, January 24, 2011.
