Obituary

Hugh Martin (Slick) Mitchell, 88, beloved husband, father, grandfather, of Red House Rd., Appomattox, died Tuesday, August 6, 2013, in Lynchburg General Hospital. He was the loving husband of Doris Reynolds Mitchell for 61 years.

Born in Charlotte County, VA on September 4, 1924, he was a son of the late Amanda Puckett and Eddie Whitfield Mitchell. He was a member of New Hope Baptist Church where he served as a deacon, Sunday School Director, and sang in the choir and the New Hope Quartet. He served his country as a member of the US Navy during World War II, was co-owner of Childress and Mitchell Electrical and Plumbing, and served on the Appomattox Volunteer Fire Department for 47 years. Slick was known for this quick wit and sense of humor.

He is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Marvin and Rita Mitchell of Appomattox and Calvin and Roseanna Mitchell of Spout Spring; five grandchildren, Anna, Matthew, and Ashley Mitchell and Christopher and Amanda Lowery; two great grandchildren, Chloe and Brennan Mitchell and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his precious daughter, Donna M. Lowery; four brothers, Raymond, Dewey, Frank, and Len Mitchell and two sisters, Hilda Johnson and Margaret Pead.

The family will receive friends at Robinson Funeral Home Thursday, Aug. 8, from 7-8:30 p.m. and other times at the residence.

A funeral service will be held 2:00 p.m., Friday, August 9, 2013, at New Hope Baptist Church by the Rev. Ron Moore with burial following in the church cemetery.
