Howard Thomas Williams, Jr., 86, of Willow Creek Run, Pamplin City, died peacefully on Tuesday, September 18, 2018, at his residence surrounded by his family. He and his wife, Carolyn Priest Williams shared their life together for 58 years.
Born in Lynchburg, Va., on December 28, 1931, he was a son of the late Carrie Meadows and Howard Thomas Williams, Sr. He was a graduate of Pamplin High School where he played baseball. Howard lettered in baseball while attending Lynchburg College before leaving to join the U.S. Air Force to serve in the Korean War. After leaving the Air Force, he attended Longwood College. Howard was a representative for Farm Bureau Insurance in Farmville for many years. He retired as the manager for Cherrystone Bait and Tackle and enjoyed his time as a school bus driver for the Appomattox School System.
Howard was a member of Elon Baptist Church and a former Sunday School Superintendent. He was a 32 nd degree Mason, a member of the Monroe Masonic Lodge #301 A.F.& A.M.; a former worshipful master of the Southside Lodge #191 A.F.& A.M.; and received his 50-year Masonic pin in 2016. He was a past president of the Pamplin Ruritan.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, Howard Thomas Williams, III of Puerto Vallarta, Mexico; a daughter, Susan Winn Williams and husband, Jeff of Charlotte Court House; two granddaughters, Faith and Hope Williams; a sister, Joan Jurney of Danville; two brothers, Bruce Williams and wife, Susan and Randy Williams and wife, Suzy all of Pamplin; and numerous nieces and nephews including his god-daughter, Tori Rothgeb and her husband, Justin of Appomattox.
He was preceded in death by his brother-in-law, Joe Jurney.
The family would like to thank his caregiver, Annette Carter and Centra Hospice staff members, Diann Pickett and Patty Rimbey for their care of Howard.
A memorial service will be held 2 p.m., Sunday, September 23, 2018, at Robinson Funeral Home by the Rev. David Sexton.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorials be made to Elon Baptist Church, PO Box 1238, Pamplin, VA 23958 or the Pamplin E. M. S., PO Box 1099, Pamplin, VA 23958.
