Concord: Howard Ray Moore, 84, of 111 Beckham Rd., died Wednesday, September 20, 2006 in Virginia Baptist Hospital. He was the husband of Elizabeth Childress Moore.
Born in Roanoke, July 5, 1922, he was a son of the late William Washington and Maggie Shaner Moore. Howard Ray was a US Navy Veteran serving during WW II. He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church and a retired heavy equipment operator, working for A. B. Burton, Pettyjohn Construction Co., and Enterprise Mining Co.
In addition to his wife, Elizabeth he is survived by two sons, William (Billy) Moore and his wife, Tammy and Richard Wayne Moore all of Concord; three daughters, Linda Phelps and her husband, Ray of Appomattox, Alicia Gallier and husband, Rex of Concord, and Shawn Martin and husband, Jeff of Madison Heights; a brother, Allen Butler Moore of Spout Spring; a sister, Gladys M. Bray of Pamplin; a daughter-in-law, Sandra Moore of Madison Heights; 13 grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a son, Robert (Bobby) Moore, two sisters, Martha Coflin and Rachel Moore and a brother, William E. Moore.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 am, Saturday, September 23, 2006 at Trinity United Methodist Church by the Rev. Robert Thorne and the Rev. Jerry Childress. Burial will follow in Moore's Peaceful Valley Cemetery with military rites accorded by American Legion Honor Guard #104.
The family will receive friends at Robinson Funeral Home today from 7-8:30 pm and at other times at the residence.
