Obituary

Mary Hilda Dinkins Gilliam, 88, of Newport News, formerly of Pamplin, died on Sunday, November 13, 2011. She was the wife of the late H. Watts Gilliam. Hilda was born in Appomattox County on December 9, 1922 a daughter of the late Nevel R. Dinkins and Lillie Fore Dinkins.

Hilda is survived by one daughter, Gloria G. Gibson and husband, Edward of Newport News; a grandson, Scott E. Gibson and wife, Lora; a granddaughter, Dana G. Lynch and husband, Jeff and their children Ryan and Ben.

In addition to her parents, Hilda was predeceased by two brothers, Floyd and Twyman Dinkins and three sisters, Thelma Rogers, Olla Mae Cox and Murtice Inge.

Hilda was devoted to her family and was delighted when she could use her talents in sewing, cooking and fixing hair for their pleasure. She always saw the good in everything and never complained or was critical of others. The family would like to thank all of the nurses and those who took care of Hilda at the Newport News Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

A funeral service will be held in Appomattox, VA, at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, November 17, 2011 at Robinson Funeral Home by the Rev. David Sexton. The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the service. A committal service will be held at 12:30 p.m. at Fort Hill Memorial Park in Lynchburg.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, 1022 Commerce Street, Lynchburg, VA 24504 or a charity of your choice.
