Obituary

Hester Lee Filer Asman, 68, of Saxe and currently residing in Appomattox, went to be with the Lord on Friday, January 24, 2014.

Born in Chicago, Illinois, on March 24, 1945, she was a daughter of Rowland Franklin Filer of Virginia Beach and Margaret Lee (Bo Bo) Toombs of Keysville. Hester loved to serve others, enjoyed crafts, and was a caretaker for many family members over the years. She will be remembered as a loving neighbor to many giving her time and talents.

She is survived by three sons, John Howard Seals and wife, Barbara, George Ray Seals, and Steven Hardgrave Asman, Jr. all of Charlotte County; two daughters, Mary Margaret Mann of Appomattox and Amy Marie Williamson and Jake of Charlotte Court House; her loving, devoted granddaughter and caretaker, Bliss Wilmouth; her grandson, Dallas D. Seals whom she raised; 16 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; three brothers, Rowland Franklin Filer, III, Howard Oliver Filer and wife, Sandra, and Cecil Stanley Filer; a sister, Nancy Filer Mason; a cousin who for many years she cared for, Frank C. Cox.

She was preceded in death by a great granddaughter, Savannah.

A memorial service will be held 6:00 p.m., Friday, January 31, 2014, at Appomattox Baptist Temple by Pastor Allen B. Gregory.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests that memorials be made to the Benevolence Fund, Appomattox Baptist Temple, PO Box 2279, Appomattox, VA 24522 or the Emily Couric Clinical Cancer Center, 1290 Lee Street, Charlottesville, VA 22903.
