Obituary

Herbert Moorman Abbitt, born May 4th, 1916 died on April 9, 2007. He attended Wake Forest College and Medical College of Virginia. Herbert served in the U.S. Army during WWII, operated Village Drug Store in Highland Springs, and worked at the Appomattox Rexall Drug store in Appomattox since 1972.
He taught Sunday school at New Bridge Baptist Church in Highland Springs and was a member of New Hope Baptist Church in Vera as well as deacon and Sunday school teacher.
He was preceded in death by his mother Otway Moorman (Totsie) Abbitt and his father George Francis Abbitt, Sr. Also preceding him in death were his two brothers, Watt and George Abbitt; as well as his wives, Stella Virginia Fox Abbitt, Rosa Mae Wooldridge Abbitt, and Courtney Frances Harvey Abbitt.
Surviving him are his two sisters, Dora Conner and Eloise Snead; his brother, Charles Abbitt; one daughter, Joyce McLean Abbitt; and numerous nieces and nephews and step children.
The following is his final statement to his friends and family: "I wish to express my loving gratitude for the affectionate considerations that my whole family and also my many, many dear friends have shared with me especially during times of stress and hardship in my life. May God bless each and every one of you."
His favorite song was "Going Home" and, indeed he has!
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Thursday April 12, 2007, in New Hope Baptist Church with the Rev. Woody Torrence officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to the funeral service.
