Obituary
Henry Turner (H.T.) Burleigh, Jr., 85, of Plum Branch Road, Concord, died Friday morning, May 9, 2014 at Lynchburg General Hospital. He was the loving husband of Anne Wood Burleigh for 63 years.
Born in Lynchburg, VA, March 11, 1929, he was a son of the late Diana Whitehead and Henry T. Burleigh, Sr. He was a devoted member of New Concord Presbyterian Church, a devoted husband and father, always willing to lend a hand to a neighbor or friend. H.T. was a Beekeeper, master wood craftsman, farmer and a Master Mason as a member of Reedy Spring Masonic Lodge #203 A.F. & A.M.
H.T. worked for over 30 years for English Construction Company as a superintendent and later as a partner with his sons in Burleigh Construction Co., Inc. until he retired in 1993. He worked tirelessly with great pride and precision in all he accomplished. It was important to him to be a teacher and mentor to his family, friends and co-workers. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
In addition to his devoted wife, Anne, he is survived by their children, William T. Burleigh and his wife Shelley, of Concord; Susan B. Dwyer and her husband Mike, of Danville, PA; M. Phillip Burleigh and his wife Sandy, of Concord; Mary B. Martin and her husband Kenneth, of Richmond; and Joan B. Thompson and her husband David, of Concord; 13 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. He is also survived by one sister, Barbara B. Poole, Concord; and two brothers, Gerald W. Burleigh and his wife Mary Ann, of Concord and Kendall C. Burleigh and his wife Liz, of Bristol,
He was preceded in death by a sister Ann B. Southall and a brother James P. Burleigh.
The family will receive friends at New Concord Presbyterian Church, 5868 New Chapel Road, Concord, Sunday, May 11, 2014, from 6:00 to 8:00 pm.
A graveside funeral service with Masonic Rites will be held 10:00 am, Monday, May 12, 2014 in Fort Hill Memorial Park officiated by William H. Aiken, Jr.
A memorial service will be held 4:00 pm, Monday, May 12, 2014, at New Concord Presbyterian Church.
The family suggests that memorials be made to New Concord Presbyterian Church, C/o John Lewis,153 Anslem Drive, Lynchburg, VA 24504.
