Appomattox: Henry Thornton Barger, 89, of Dunn Roamin Rd., died Tuesday, September 4, 2007 in the Appomattox Health and Rehabilitation Center. He was the husband of the late Louise Dunn Barger for 69 years.
Born in Bland County, May 20, 1918, he was a son of the late Charles R. and Martha Lindamood Barger. Henry was a member of Appomattox Court House Presbyterian Church and a retired farmer.
He is survived by two daughters, Marlene B. Simpson and Rebekah B. Burke and her husband, William A.(Bill) Burke all of Appomattox; a son, Robert M. Barger and his wife, Marlene of Lake Placid, FL; two brothers, Robert Barger of Roanoke and Billie Barger of Murdock, FL; four sisters, Iris B. Ellis, Lillian B. Fleenor both of Bristol, Patsy B. Melvin of Bluff City, TN, and Alma J. Snead of Wytheville; eight grandchildren, Scott M. Barger, Nina R. Keery, Todd T. Barger, J. D. Simpson, III, Bryan P. Simpson and wife, Tina, Christopher A. Simpson and wife, Cara, C. Van Allen Burke, Elizabeth Ashley Burke; ten great grandchildren; four great granddogs, one horse and a donkey.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Jane B. Bird.
Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m., Friday, September 7, 2007 at Robinson Funeral Home by the Rev. Wes Williams and the Rev. Millard Stimpson with burial following in Liberty Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the home of Bill and Becky Burke, 523 Dunn Roamin Road, Appomattox.
