Helen Lucille Fitzgerald Doss, 69, of Country Estates Road, Appomattox, died Monday, February 17, 2014, at Lynchburg General Hospital. She was the wife of Gene Autry Doss, Sr.

Helen was born in Albemarle County, VA, March 24, 1944, a daughter of the late Florence Bryant and Carrington Fitzgerald. She was a retired employee of Courtland Manufacturing and after retirement served as a CNA.

In addition to her husband, Gene, she is survived by three children, Marie Simpson and husband, Kevin of Forest; Gene "Bobo" Doss, Jr. and wife, Teresa; Wanda McCormick and husband, Frankie, all of Appomattox; six grandchildren, Tiffany Martin, Kristin Wagner, Nicole Hackett, Brandon McCormick, Max and Dusty Doss; two step-grandchildren, Jonathan and Justin Bryant; six great-grandchildren, Silas Martin, Levi and Allison Wagner, Brayden and Maylee Hackett, Brooklynn McCormick; two step-great-grandchildren, Tucker and Channing Bryant; a sister, Hazel Ferguson and husband, Wayne of Appomattox; numerous nieces and nephews.

Helen was preceded in death by two sisters, Margaret McFadden and Joyce McCormick.

Funeral services will be held 3:00 P.M., Thursday, February 20, 2014, at Robinson Funeral Home, officiated by the Rev. Chris Brooks. Burial will follow in Liberty Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 7-8:30 PM today (Wednesday) and other times at the residence.
