Obituary

Helen Mae Poe Beaty, 84, passed away Friday, October 6, 2017 at Runk and Pratt at Liberty Ridge. She was the wife of the late James (Jim) A. Beaty, Jr.

Born in Appomattox County, April 16, 1933, she was a daughter of the late Blanche Babcock and Clarence C. Poe, Sr. She graduated from Appomattox High School. Helen Mae was a faithful member of Liberty Baptist Church where she served God in many ways. Helen Mae worked at the family hardware store for many years till its closing in 1984. She was also employed by F.T. Seargent Surveying, the Times Virginian and retired from Courtland Manufacturing.

She was a loving mother and grandmother. Loving her family was second nature to her and was evident in all she did for them. Helen Mae is survived by three daughters, Annette B. Williams, Virginia B. Tweedy (Ray), Carole B. Foxwell (Neale) all of Appomattox, and a son James A. Beaty, III (Margarita) of Cumming, GA. Helen Mae was delighted to have grandchildren, to nurture and spoil Jennifer T. Morgen (Eric) of Sierra Vista, AZ, Shannon W. Banton (Phillip) of Appomattox, Sam Williams (Jennifer) of Phenix, Michael Tweedy (Brandi), Meghan F. Staton (Jeremy) of Appomattox, Autumn F. Godsey (Calvin) of Moneta, Joseph F. Foxwell (Ryan) of Appomattox, Dr. Elina Shustef (Jenia) of San Diego, CA and Morgan Beaty of Cumming, GA; and God continued his many blessings with 20 great-grandchildren for Helen Mae to love; Marissa and Dillon Banton, Braden and Sydney Williams, Elissa Peterson, Jadon, Haleigh, Mikayla and Colton Tweedy, Kenzie, Channing, Bella and Finley Staton, Greenlee and Chesnee Godsey, Ryleigh, Blair and Amelia Foxwell and Landon and Liam Shustef; two brothers, Clarence C. "Buddy" Poe, Jr., (Madeline) of Yorktown, VA and Dr. Richard Poe (Teresa) of Lynchburg; a brother-in-law, R. Dan Beaty (Gem) of Birmingham, AL; many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

She is preceded in death by a son-in-law, Donald "Duck" Williams.

The family would like to express their gratitude to the staff at Runk and Pratt, and Seven Hills Hospice for their loving care of Helen Mae while she was at Liberty Ridge.

A funeral service will be held 11 a.m., Monday, October 9, 2017 at Liberty Baptist Church, with Rev. Rusty Small officiating. Burial will follow in the Babcock family cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 4 until 6 p.m., Sunday, October 8, 2017 at Robinson Funeral Home.
