Hazel Burks Tyree, 74, of Gladstone, died Wednesday, September 28, 2011, in Fairmont Crossing. She was the wife of the late Luther Cleveland Tyree, Jr.
Born in Buckingham County, on February 18, 1937, she was a daughter of the late Albert C. Burks and Elsie Bryant Burks McCormick. Hazel was a member of Maple Grove Baptist Church and retired from Old Dominion Box Company.
She is survived by three sisters, Linda B. Totty of Appomattox, Gertrude B. Eagle of Lynchburg, and Gloria B. McCormick and her husband, Frank, of Gladstone; two brothers, James B. Burks and his wife, Cecil Faye and Bernard L. Burks, all of Gladstone; two sisters-in-law, Gladys T. Burley and her husband, Ross and Jean T. Burley Mauro and her husband, George, all of Amherst; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by one sister, Betty B. McCready, and two brothers, Melvin A. Burks and Al G. Burks.
A funeral service will be held 3:00 p.m., on Saturday, October 1, 2011, at Robinson Funeral Home by the Rev. Robert Phillips. Burial will follow in Amherst Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home today, Friday, Sept. 30, from 7-8:30 p.m.
