Obituary
Hazel Lee Coleman Martin, 92, of Oakville Road, Appomattox, received the gift of eternal life on Thursday, August 29, 2013 at her residence. She was the loving and devoted wife of the late Otho Wesley Martin Jr. for 67 years. Born in Appomattox County, VA, on August 15, 1921, she was a daughter of the late Dora Edna Wooldridge and Wesley Lee Coleman. Also preceding her in death was a grandson, James Wesley Martin, Jr. and sister, Kathleen Edna Richardson.
She is survived by a sister, Lucille Coleman Lewis and husband, Clark of Appomattox; two sons, James Wesley Martin, Sr. of Murfreesboro, Tennessee and Richard Lee Martin of Appomattox; two grandsons, Matthew Elliott Martin of Memphis, Tennessee and John-Richard Martin; a granddaughter, Lauralee Mills and husband Josh; and three great grandchildren, Tyler Martin, Georgia and Lucy Mills, all of Appomattox.
Hazel Lee was a graduate of Appomattox High School and Phillips Business College. She was a member of Mt Comfort United Methodist Church serving as a choir member, historian, Sunday school teacher, and was a lifetime member in the United Methodist Women. She was an active Gideon's Auxiliary Member, a life time member of the Appomattox Historical Society, and a member of the United Daughters of the Confederacy serving as treasurer, historian, and Virginia State UDC President.
The family would like to express their appreciation to her caregivers, Pat Davidson and Diane Marsh for their loving care of Hazel Lee.
The family will receive friends at Robinson Funeral Home, Friday, August 30, 2013, from 7 to 8:30 p.m. and other at the residence.
A funeral service will be held 11:00 a.m., Saturday, August 31, 2013, in Mt Comfort Methodist Church, Lime Plant Road, by the Rev. Larry Mann, the Rev. Randolph Martin, and the Rev. David Camden. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. A lunch will be served immediately following the services.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be made to Mt. Comfort United Methodist Church, 4901 Oakville Rd., Appomattox, VA 24522 or Gideon's International, PO Box 486, Appomattox, VA 24522.
