Harvey Julius Baine, IV, of Virginia Avenue, Appomattox, died Tuesday, October 24, 2017, in Lynchburg General Hospital.

Born in Greenwood, Mississippi, on October 2, 1957, he was the son of Sara Johnson Baine and Harvey Julius Baine, III.

Harvey attended Mississippi State University; then relocating to Florida, graduated from the University of North Florida with a Bachelor of Arts. He received a Masters of Fine Arts degree with a concentration in Creative Writing from American University in Washington, D. C.

Harvey was a loyal sports fan. He followed the Mississippi State Bulldogs in all sports and kept a cowbell on his desk. One of the last things he communicated was a desire to know who won State's game. State 45, Kentucky 7. Go Dawgs!

Harvey had a strong faith in God. He was involved in a mission trip to Paraguay and was so taken by the children, he come home and began teaching third grade Sunday School.

A gifted poet, Harvey was published in numerous journals. In addition to writing he loved literature, old movies, and music. Harvey liked live music and especially dancing with abandon right up near the band.

In addition to his mother, Sara, he is survived by a brother, Bryan Baine and wife, Debbie; a sister, Rena Baine; a nephews, Gordon; three nieces, Virginia, Delia, and Hannah Lee all of Appomattox; an aunt, Nell Parker Lyon of Starkville, Mississippi; and numerous cousins.

A memorial service will be held on 3:00 p.m., Sunday, November 5, 2017, at Appomattox Court House Presbyterian led by the Rev. Gene Beverly. The memorial service will be followed by a reception with refreshments and music by his favorite band.
