Obituary

Harold Taylor Stratton, 86, of Liberty Chapel Road, Appomattox, passed away on Friday, February 16, 2018 at his residence. He was the loving husband of Virginia Lewis Stratton for 65 years.

Born in Appomattox County, Va., on November 24, 1931, he was a son of the late Mary Lucy Taylor and Bert Douglas Stratton. He was an active member of Hebron Baptist Church, serving as a deacon and on many committees.

Harold was a 1950 graduate of Appomattox High School and served in the 101 st ABN Division in the US Army during the Korean War. He retired from Babcock and Wilcox after 35 years. After retiring, he became a beef farmer which was one of his greatest joys.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, Edward "Eddie" Taylor Stratton; a daughter, Nancy Stratton Caldwell and husband, John R. Caldwell all of Appomattox; three grandchildren, Ginny A. Ferguson of Washington, D.C., Ethan T. Stratton, and Kalie Caldwell both of Appomattox; a sister, Jean S. Maxey of Lynchburg; two brothers, John "Jack" Stratton and wife, Jean and William "Bill" Stratton and wife, Arlene; two sisters-in-law, Faye H. Stratton and Lucille C. Lewis all of Appomattox; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, James D. Stratton and Thelbert L. Stratton; two brothers-in-law, R. Clark Lewis and Dan Lewis; and a sister-in-law, Sandra M. Lewis.

Funeral services will be held 2 p.m., Monday, February 19, 2018, at Hebron Baptist Church with the Rev. Tom Walker and Dr. David Stratton officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with military rites accorded by American Legion Post #104 and V.F.W. #9855 combined honor guard.

The family will receive friends at the residence.
