IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Harold "Barney"
Sidney Bane, Jr.
February 16, 1939 – November 7, 2025
Harold "Barney" Sidney Bane, Jr., 86, of Appomattox, passed away peacefully on Friday, November 7, 2025, at his residence after a long illness surrounded by his family. He was the husband of Frances Ruth Clapp Bane for over 51 years.
Born in Bluefield, VA, on February 16, 1939, he was the son of the late Harold Sidney Bane, Sr. and Clorinda Jane Morris Bane. Harold worked at Lynchburg Foundry for 38 years. He was a devoted Jehovah Witness.
Harold grew up with a deep appreciation for the outdoors. From an early age, he found peace and joy in nature whether he was casting a line in a lake or stream at sunrise or tracking deer through the woods on a crisp autumn morning. His favorite love was treeing coons with his blue tick hound Snappitt. Hunting and fishing weren't just hobbies for Harold, they were a way of life. He cherished the time spent in the woods or on the water, especially when shared with lifelong buddies, Harry Doss, Gordan Coleman, and Daryl Ore. In his later years, he enjoyed teaching his grandson, Blake, how to fish, and watching sports and old westerns on TV. He was a diehard Washington Redskins fan.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by three children, Debra Bane Bryant of Arrington, Charlotte Justis and husband, Chip of Forest, and Jamie Bane of Appomattox; five grandchildren, Erika Bryant, Jessica Bryant, Nathan Justis, Blake Justis, and Maddy Powell; four great-grandchildren, Abigail, Asher, Michael, and Emma; sister, Judy Crawley of Florida; and numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Charles Bane; and a granddaughter, Kinsley Justis.
A private graveside service will be held in Evergreen Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 6-7:30 pm, Tuesday, November 11, 2025, at Robinson Funeral Home.
