Harold Eugene Hamlet, 76, of Old Evergreen Road, Appomattox, died Sunday, July 30, 2017 at Lynchburg General Hospital. He was the loving husband of Dorothy Paulette Hamlet.
Born in Lynchburg, September 27, 1940, he was a son of the late Lula Morton and Robert Lee Hamlet. Harold was a member of Evergreen Baptist Church, where he served as a Deacon, former Sunday school director, song leader, youth leader, and served in many other capacities. He was lead singer with the "Singing Christians" for a number of years.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by three children, Tambra H. Owen and husband, Grayson of Chester, T. Duane Hamlet and wife, Jeannie and Curtis Lee Hamlet all of Appomattox; one brother, Claude Melvin Hamlet of Rustburg; one sister, Carol Hamlet Waller and husband Owen of Nathalie; eight grandchildren, Jessie Hamlet, Christina Hamlet, Blake Hamlet, Lexi Hamlet, Claudia Hamlet, Waylon Hamlet all of Appomattox, Meredith Owen and Gray Owen of Chester; four sisters-in-law, Betty Hamlet, Lyndia Hamlet both of Lynchburg and Sandy Hamlet of Forest, and Dr. Wilsie Sue Bishop and husband, Paul of Johnson City, Tenn.; and many loving nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by four brothers, Robert Hamlet, William (Bill) Hamlet, Dave Hamlet and J.P. Hamlet; two sisters-in-law, Peggy Hamlet and Helen Hamlet; and one nephew William Hamlet, Jr.
A funeral service will be held 11 am Thursday, August 3, 2017 at Evergreen Baptist Church with Pastor Jeff Slaughter and Dr. Chris King officiating. Burial will follow at Evergreen cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 7 until 8:30 p.m., Wednesday, August 2, 2017 at Evergreen Baptist Church and other times at the residence.
