Harley Roscoe Shaffer Jr.

Harley Roscoe Shaffer, Jr., 80, of Appomattox, VA, passed away on Thursday, April 16, 2026, at Lynchburg General Hospital. He was the husband of the late Sally Bartley Shaffer.

Born on September 2, 1945, in McLean, VA, he was the son of the late Madeline Moore and Harley Roscoe Shaffer, Sr. Harley was a member of Glenn Memorial Baptist Church, serving as a Deacon and Sunday school teacher for many years. He loved his church family. Harley served in the United States Army during the Vietnam war and worked as a police officer in Fairfax and Appomattox County. He served as a firefighter for McLean Volunteer Fire Department.

He is survived by three children, Karin D. Robertson and husband, Curt, Waylon Shaffer, and Emily Shaffer; two grandchildren, Gavyn Robertson and Makenna Robertson; four siblings, Elmer Shaffer, Lynn Shaffer, Joyce Reed, Salome Whitbey; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by two children, an infant son, and son, Larry Shaffer.

A funeral service will be held 2pm, Tuesday, April 21, 2026, at Glenn Memorial Baptist Church with Pastor Jim Schwerdtfeger officiating. Burial will be immediately following the service in the church cemetery with military rites accorded by American Legion Post #104 and VFW #9855 combined honor guard.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
