Hugh Michael (Mike) Matthews, 66, of Long Meadows Dr., Lynchburg, died Friday, September 17, 2010 in Lynchburg General Hospital. He was the husband of Janie Woodson Matthews.

Born in Battle Creek, Michigan, on February 19, 1944, he was a son of the late Robert Raphael and Elizabeth Driskill Matthews. Mike was a US Navy veteran, a member of Gospel Light Baptist Church and a carpenter.

In addition to his wife he is survived by a son, Michael B. Matthews, of Lynchburg; a daughter, Kristie M. (Chris) Brooks, of Hurt; two brothers, William P. (Sally) Matthews, of Madison Heights and Carl D. (Brenda) Matthews, of Chesapeake; a sister, Brenda W. (Mike) Robertson, of Lynchburg; and two grandchildren, Elizabeth Brooks and Braylan King.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Robert C. (Corkey) Matthews.

Graveside funeral services will be held 2:00 pm, Sunday, September 19, 2010, in Reedy Springs Baptist Church Cemetery by Pastor Scott Dean.
