Gordon Hubert Clack, 93, of River Ridge Road, Appomattox, died Friday, August 21, 2015 at Lynchburg General Hospital. He was the husband of the late Cecilia Elizabeth Foster Clack for 45 years.
Born in Cordele, Ga., on November 19, 1921, he was a son of the late Cora Lee Watson and Green Henry Clack. He was a long time member of Fairview United Methodist Church. Gordon enlisted in the US Navy in1942 and served on PC1227 which escorted ships across the Atlantic to Africa and was later stationed in the Mediterranean Sea. He drove a Higgins boat at Anzio taking troops from the ship to the beach under heavy shelling from German forces. He retired from General Electric as a machinist for over 30 years of service.
He is survived by two daughters, Wanda C. Conner and husband, Russell A. Conner of Appomattox and Evelyn Gail Downey of Colombia, SC; three grandchildren, Adam R. Conner and wife, Ann, Cheryl G. Reynolds, and Robert E. L. Reynolds; two great grandsons, Brice A. Conner and Blake Owen Baughman; a sister and brother-in-law, Bobbie Jo and William C. Wallace of Wyoming, Del.; and a sister-in-law, Modena Clack Calhoun of Cordele, Ga.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Herman T. Clack and three sisters, Beatrice Beamon, Bernice Rentfro, and Geraldine Wade.
A funeral service will be held 1 p.m., Monday, August 24, 2015, at Liberty Baptist Church by Dr. Rusty Small. Burial will follow at 2:30 p.m. in Fort Hill Burial Park with military rites accorded by American Legion Post #104 and V. F. W. Post #9855 combined honor guard.
The family will receive friends at Robinson Funeral Home on Sunday, August 23, from 4-6 p.m.
