Obituary

Appomattox – George Budd Kelsey, 95, of Country Estates Road and formerly of Farmville passed from this earthly life to his heavenly home Saturday morning December 30, 2006 at his residence. He was the husband of Alice Harris Kelsey.
George was born in Cumberland County, VA on December 12, 1911, a son of the late Harrison Morton and Lillian Budd Kelsey. He was a member of Appomattox Courthouse Presbyterian Church, Farmville Masonic Lodge #41 A.F. &A.M.; Past Master Farmville Lodge #41; Past Patron of Appomattox Chapter #10 Order of Eastern Star and Primary Member Robert Morris Chapter #150 OES and Modern Woodmen of American. George was also very active in Scouting and in 1957 the National Council of the Boy Scouts of America awarded him the Silver Beaver Award. He joined the US Army Infantry in 1932 serving in Hawaii and was drafted in World War II into the Army serving in the Pacific Theater from New Guinea to Japan. George retired from Kilkare Laundry in Farmville.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, Stanley Kelsey of Richmond, a special daughter, Cheryl and her husband, C. Lewis McDearmon, Jr. of Appomattox and their children, Mac, Ruth, Patrick, & Cecilia; a number of great-grandchildren; two sisters, Margaret Goin and Janet Vaughan both of Farmville; several nieces and nephews including a special niece, Carolyn Vaughan; two brothers-in-law and their wives, Crawford and Dorothy Harris of Appomattox; Ray and Kathy Harris of Gladstone; and special caregivers, Ray & Kathy Harris, Doc & Dorothy Harris and Kirk and Linda Harris.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Ella Kelsey Montgomery.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Tuesday, January 2, 2007 at Appomattox Courthouse Presbyterian Church by the Rev. Cameron Smith, Rev. Lanny Howe and Rev. Shannon Harris. Burial will follow in Westview Cemetery in Farmville.
A Masonic Service will be held at 7:00 P.M. Monday night, January 1, 2007 at Robinson Funeral Home. The family will receive friends immediately following the Masonic service until 8:30 P.M.
