Gayle Power Oliver, 66, of 400 Skyline Road, Appomattox, died Monday morning, January 17, 2011, in her home, following a long and courageous battle with Cancer. She was the widow of the late Thomas Wallace (T.W.) Oliver.
Gayle was born in Norfolk, Va on November 15, 1944 and was the only child of the late Evelyn Wallace and John Maxwell Power.
She attended Longwood College and graduated with a BA in Education. From there, she went on to teach Business and Accounting at Rustburg High School for 33 years.
She is survived by a son, Brian Thomas Oliver and his wife Tina, of Concord; a daughter, Melissa Karole Oliver Mills and her husband Travis, of Appomattox; five grandchildren, Max Oliver, Daniel Oliver, Keyla Jones, Travis Mills Jr., and Jake Oliver; many nieces and nephews; and Aunt Margaret Hutchinson of Richmond.
The family is grateful for the care and concern shown by Dr. Cecilia Maccallum , the staff at Lynchburg Hematology-Oncology and Alice Powell of Hospice of the Hills.
It was Gayle's wish that a funeral service not be held, however, a visitation for family and friends will be held Thursday night, January 20, 2011, from 7-8:30pm at Robinson Funeral Home, 667 Court Street, Appomattox, VA.
In Lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be made to the Hospice of the Hills, 2097 Langhorne Rd. Lynchburg VA, 24501
