Obituary

Frederick Hobson Lawson, Sr., 78, of Appomattox, died peacefully at his home, on March 19, 2009, from complications due to Alzheimer's Disease. He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Peggy Smith Lawson.
He was born in Brookneal, Va, on March 29, 1930, the third son of John Raymond Lawson and Rachel Ferguson Lawson. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers; John Raymond (Jack)Lawson, Jr.; S.R. (Bobby) Lawson; and Harry Gordon Lawson.
In addition to his wife, Fred is survived by three children, Marinda Reeves and husband, Carl; Susan Eggleston and husband, Mitch; and Frederick H. Lawson, Jr. (Freddy), all of Appomattox; four grandchildren, Trey Eggleston, Taryn Eggleston, Andrew Dunn, and Braxton Reeves; a loving mother-in-law, Neola B. Smith; and a very special cousin, Sam Ferguson and his wife, Hilda.
Fred was a faithful member of Memorial United Methodist Church. He was a Korean War veteran, attended Lynchburg College, and spent most of his life working in the garment business, as owner/president of factories such as the Appomattox Garment Company and Courtland Manufacturing. He will be remembered for his keen business sense, his generosity, and his love for his community, his family, and his friends.
The family will receive friends and family from 6-8 pm, Saturday, March 21, at Robinson Funeral Home. A funeral service will be conducted at 2 pm, Sunday, March 22, at Memorial United Methodist Church, by Pastor Bruce Johnson and Pastor Alfred Jones. Interment will follow in Liberty Cemetery.
Fred didn't believe much in flowers so memorial contributions may be made to the Memorial UMC Building Fund, PO Box 9, Appomattox, VA, 24522 or the Youth Building Project of The Jesus Center, PO Box 322, Appomattox, VA, 24522.
The family extends sincere gratitude to Fred's dear caregivers, Selena Anderson, Libby Robertson, Tiffany Anderson, Donna Dixon, and Hospice of the Hills, for their devoted care and compassion throughout his illness.
