Frederick Carroll "Freddie" Carter, Sr., 65, lived, loved and passed in the Carter Family home on Church St., Appomattox on Saturday, morning, January 22, 2011.
Born in Appomattox on March 15, 1945, he was a son of the late Charles Marie (Buster) Carter and Ethel Guill "Ted" Carter. He was a member of Liberty Baptist Church and a former business owner in Appomattox. He was proud of his Appomattox roots and all his friends and neighbors. He loved them all. Freddie served his country during the Vietnam War as a member of the U.S. Navy.
He is survived by a son, Fred C. Carter, Jr., Oak Harbor, Washington; two daughters, Laura Carter Bryant and Beverly Carter both of Appomattox; one brother, Kenneth Wayne Carter, Columbia, SC; four sisters, Phyllis C. Burkey, Chester, Barbara C. Almond, Columbia, SC, Brenda C. McConville, Lynchburg, and Pamela C. Moore, Appomattox; 11 grandchildren, Justin Bryant, Rick Carter, Samantha Carter, Jonathan Bryant, Jasmine Bryant, Tyler New, Joshua Bryant, Austin Carter, Nathan New, Hunter Carter and Jackie Bryant; a great grandson, Tucker Bryant; the mother of his children, Mary Frances Moses "Billie" Carter, Appomattox; nine nephews and eight nieces.
He was preceded in death by three brothers, Charles D. Carter, Robert W. (Boots) Carter, Sr., and Karl E. (Toots) Carter.
The family wishes to acknowledge and thank those who supported them and Freddie during his illness; Tommy O'Brien, Jerry Mitchell, S.L. (Baby Sam) Ferguson, Deborah Berkey and many others.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 am, Friday, January 28, 2011, in Liberty Baptist Church by the Rev. Rusty Small. Burial to follow in Liberty Cemetery with military rites accorded by American Legion Post #104 and V.F.W. #9855 combined honor guard.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 PM, Thursday, January 27, 2011 at Robinson Funeral Home and other times at the residence.
