Frances Elder Hunter, 87, of Bear Creek Rd., Red House, died Wednesday, January 1, 2014, in the Hospice House, Lynchburg. She was the wife of the late Ambrose Baker (A. B.) Hunter, Jr.
Born in Charlotte County, VA, on April 3, 1926, she was a daughter of the late Richard Oliver Elder and Hassie Pillow Elder Griffin. She was a member of Concord Presbyterian Church.
Frances is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Samuel Baker and Gail Hunter of Red House; three daughters and sons-in-law, Ellie H. and John Hubbard of Lynchburg, Mary H. and Lynn Greene of Windsor, and Saree H. and Jim O'Brien of Clarksville; a sister, Sylvia Denny of Lynchburg; eight grandchildren, Lee Redd, Doug (Jessica) Redd, Jesse (Ann) Redd, Joan (Tim) Armstrong, Matthew (Bethany) Hunter, Elizabeth O. (Kevin) Herman, Katie O. (Chris) Broome, and Hunter O'Brien; 11 great-grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Lena McLean of Appomattox; and a longtime friend and caregiver, Betty Trent.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Kenneth Elder and her step-father, Jesse Griffin.
The family will receive friends from 6-8:00 p.m., Friday, January 3, 2014, at Robinson Funeral Home and other times at the residence.
Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m., Saturday, January 4, 2014, in Concord Presbyterian Church, 5359 Wheeler's Spring Rd., Appomattox, by Pastor Jane Smith and Pastor William Clark. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
