Frances Ann Whitt Gilliam

Frances Ann Whitt Gilliam, 90, of Concord, VA, died Sunday, July 19, 2026, at her residence. She was the loving wife of G. D. Gilliam for 67 years.

Born in Richmond, VA, on January 19, 1936, she was the daughter of the late Lola May Wood and William James Whitt. After graduating from Manchester High School in 1954, she went on to earn her degree from Madison College in 1958 in Child Education. Frances was dedicated to her family and closely followed VA Tech, and JMU sports.

Frances was an active member of Calvary Baptist Church for 54 years where she taught Sunday School Classes and Bible school and served on various committees including WMU and missions. She enjoyed being a member of the Appomattox Cooperative Extension Women’s Group.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by six children, Stephanie G. Harrison and husband, Louis of Bedford, Glenn W. Gilliam and wife, Frances of Concord, Duane D. Gilliam and wife, Stephanie of Appomattox, James G. Gilliam and wife, Lorraine of Ruckersville, Thomas A. Gilliam and wife, Debbie of Appomattox, and Karen G. Lawson and husband, Raymond of Appomattox. She is also survived by a sister, Sharon W. Thornton of Chesterfield; two brothers, William B. Whitt and wife, Carol of Cobbs Creek and Ronald H. Whitt and wife, Billie of Wicomico Church; and a sister-in-law, Carolyn Whitt of Woodbridge.

She was the proud grandmother of 22 grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a brother, James W. Whitt.

A funeral service will be held at 11 am on Wednesday, July 22, 2026, at Calvary Baptist Church officiated by Pastor Chad Harris. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

The family will receive friends following the service in the church fellowship hall.
