Evie Carson Goin Harris, 87, widow of Lewis Walter Harris, died July 6, 2009.
Born in Appomattox County, January 20, 1922, she was the third of five children of the late DeWitt Talmadge Goin and Katie Cifronia Greb Goin. She accepted the Lord and was baptized in 1935 at her home church, Walker's Presbyterian Church.
She and her husband were married March 22, 1941, and moved to Baltimore, Maryland where they raised their three daughters. Following Mr. Harris' retirement the couple returned to their hometown in Appomattox County.
Mrs. Harris was a member of New Hope Baptist Church and the W. M. U.
She is survived by her daughters, Mrs. Judy Lee Miller and husband, George of Baltimore, MD, Barbara Ann Karimi and husband, Nader of Ellicott City, MD; Dorothy Mae Harris of Lynchburg; three grandchildren, Michelle Thurston, Melanie Pierpont and Brian Donlan; five great grandchildren, Melissa Alleman, Mandy Rodriquez, Timothy Thurston, Jr., Tyler Thurston, and Kendall Pierpont; three great-great grandchildren, Andrew Alleman, Emma Rodriquez, Natilia Rodriquez; six brothers, Joseph Goin of Lynchburg, Hunter Goin of Costa Rica, Marshall Goin of Appomattox, Lester Goin of Cumberland, Leon Goin of Appomattox, Steve Goin of Appomattox; five sisters, Katie G. Adams of Appomattox, Rachel G. Harris, Mary G. Lucas both of Richmond, Barbara G. Dickerson of Pamplin, Margaret G. Guido of Fredericksburg; sister-in-law, Evelyn S. Goin; caretaker, Evelyn Saunders; her cats, Snowball, Patches, Baby and her dog, Coco.
Mrs. Harris was preceded in death by her step-mother, Alice Brown Goin, four brothers, Frank Allen Goin, John Howard Goin, Sr., DeWitt T. (Buster) Goin, Jr., and Conrad Julian (Tom) Goin and a sister, Nannie Belle G. Farinholt.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 am, Thursday, July 9, 2009, in Walkers Presbyterian Church by the Rev. Mark Neiderbrock with burial following in New Hope Baptist Church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at Robinson Funeral Home Wednesday from 7-8:30 pm and other times at the home of Marshall and Carol Goin, 517 South Fork Rd., Appomattox.
