Everette Julian Moore, 82, of Appomattox, passed away on Tuesday, November 15, 2016, at his residence, surrounded by his family and friends, following a short battle with cancer.
Born February 1, 1934, he was the son of the late Mable Crews Moore and Herbert Harding Moore.
He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 60 years, Sallie Campbell Moore and their nieces, Teresa Campbell O'Brien and Cheryl Cheatham Comeau, their husbands, Kevin H. O'Brien and Greg J. Comeau and their children, Sam and Mary O'Brien and Graham, Gaither and Gray Comeau, all of Appomattox.
He also survived by his siblings, Ellen Marie Moore Dunnam, Ruth Moore Thompson, Neville Pennell Moore (Mary Frances), Wallace Donald Moore (Shirley), and Ann Moore Reynolds (Ralph) and nieces and nephews, Eleanor Sue Kofeldt (William), Herbert Carlton Dunnam (Dianna), Margaret "Gene" Dunnam, Nida Dunnam Finch (Keith), H. Wayne Moore (Sandra), Bonnie Moore Rolfe (Randall), Larry K. Moore (Rita), Gary L. Thompson (Jayne), Debra Sue Tobak (Jim), Fleming P. Moore, W. Kevin Moore (Michelle), Julie Moore Stratton (Tom), Robin W. Moore (Ann), Traci Harris Moore, R. Dillard Reynolds (Beth) and Lynn Reynolds Wilmoth (James), as well as two sister-in-laws, Clydie Campbell Cheatham and Sue Moore Campbell and their sons, Greg Cheatham, Tommy Campbell (Pam) and Todd Campbell (Joanne).
He was preceded in death by two brothers, H.H. Moore, Jr. (Evelyn) and Alonza Moore, as well as two nephews, Freddie "Teddy" L. Moore and Robert A. "Bobby" Dunnam.
He will be remembered as an accomplished, kind and compassionate self-made business man who lived life well; always considerate of his family and his community. He served his country in the United States Army and was stationed in Korea. After returning home, he learned his construction trade at the side of David S. Nash. He later founded E. J. Moore Excavating and E&S Grounds. He soon became the contractor of choice for the U. S. Forest Service, Greif Brothers (Virginia Fiber) and the Soil Conservation Services where he initially started work during the Hurricane Camille cleanup.
He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church and served on the Building & Finance Committees, a member of Woodmen of the World and the American Legion and a chartered member of Appomattox Moose Lodge #975. Everette restored a local community store, the Sugar Shack, and was a founding member of a group of men who meet there daily during the fall and winter to play a friendly game of "Setback", his favorite card game.
Funeral services will be held at 2pm on Friday, November 18, 2016 at Trinity United Methodist Church, 1975 Trinity Road, Concord, Virginia with the Rev. Larry Mann and Rev. Randolph Martin officiating. Interment will follow at the church cemetery. The family will receive friends following the service in the Church's Family Life Center and at other times at his residence.
