Evelyn Lorraine Wood, 94, of Woodlawn Trail, Appomattox, died Tuesday morning, February 17, 2015 in Virginia Baptist Hospital.
Born on July 11, 1920 in Campbell Co., she was a daughter of the late Lorraine Cawthorne and William Floyd Wood. Evelyn was the valedictorian of her graduating class from Rustburg High School. After graduation, she worked at a hosiery mill and Chestnut Farms Dairy in Washington D.C.. Followed by a career with the Department of Agriculture being responsible for editing the yearly publication of United States agricultural statistics. Evelyn was a charter member of Forestville Baptist Church, where she served as church pianist, choir member, and secretary of Sunday school. After taking early retirement and moving to Appomattox to care for her Mother, Evelyn attended Liberty Baptist Church and was a member and secretary of the Fidelis Sunday School Class.
She is survived by a sister and brother-in-law, Emily W. and Phillip G. Thorne of Heathsville, Va., and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Evelyn was preceded in death by a sister, Mary Frances Nichols; two brothers, William S. Wood and Dr. George D. Wood.
A funeral service will be held 1 p.m. Saturday, February 21, 2015, at Robinson Funeral Home by Dr. Rusty Small with a visitation one hour prior to the start of the service.
A private family interment will take place in National Memorial Park, Falls Church, Va.
