Ethel Garrett St. John, 81, of Graves Mill Rd., Lynchburg, died Saturday, May 7, 2011, in Bentley Commons Assisted Living. She was the wife of the late Kenneth H. St. John.
Born in Appomattox County, on January 19, 1930, she was a daughter of the late James Albert and Clara Farmer Garrett. Ethel was a member of Rivermont Presbyterian Church and a former member of Evergreen Baptist Church where she served as a Sunday school teacher and was a member of the W. M. U.
She is survived by two sons, Dennis W. St. John of Toronto, Canada and James L. St. John and wife, Ginger of Madison Heights; four grandchildren, James R. St. John, Aaron A. St. John, Hilary A. St. John and husband, Stefan, and Scott H. Noble; and two great grandchildren.
In addition to her husband she was preceded in death by two brothers, Nelson N. Garrett and James Melvin Garrett and a sister, Helen G. Inge.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, May 10, 2011, in Evergreen Baptist Church by Dr. Chris King. Burial will follow in Evergreen Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church on Monday, May 9, 2011 from 7-8:30 p.m.
