Estelle (Cotton) Layne McFadden, 84, of Depot Lane, Spout Spring, died Friday, December 4, 2009 at her home surrounded by her family around noon. She was the wife of the late Floyd Edward McFadden.
Born in Spout Spring, Appomattox Co., January 1, 1925, she was a daughter of the late William Ernest Layne, Sr., and Leavie Estelle Roberts Layne. She was a life long and devoted member of Salem United Methodist Church, and a 1942 graduate of Appomattox High School. She was also a member of the Young Hearts Club, Woodmen of the World, Widows Club and the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary Unit # 104.
She is survived by two brothers, William E. Layne, Jr., and wife Alice of Spout Spring, Jack D. Layne and wife, Loretta of Appomattox; two sisters, Bettie L. Gaines and husband, Garland, Pauline L. McFadden and husband Aubrey, and their daughter Patsy McFadden all of Spout Spring; God Children, Zachary and Jeremy Gunter, Vickie Thomas and Jane Dudley; loving niece Beverly Nicely and her husband, Hiawatha Nicely, Jr., and their son, Will; and many loving nieces, nephews and friends.
She was preceded in death by a son, Kenneth Edward McFadden and sister, Florence L. Johnson.
Funeral Services will be held 2:00pm Monday, December 7, 2009 at Salem United Methodist Church, by the Rev. James Martin and the Rev. Darryl Martin. Burial will be in her family's plot at Concord Cemetery following the service.
The family will receive friends at the Funeral Home (today) Dec. 6, 2009 from 2-4:00 pm, and other times at the residence.
The family would like to thank the loving caregivers who devoted not only their skills but also their hearts to Cotton: Angie Wood, Sabrina Seay, Teresa Haskins, Pat Davidson, Becky Almond, and Jane Dudley.
