Sarah Estelle Vaughan Lewis, 88, of Print Press Rd., Appomattox, died Tuesday, September 16, 2008. She was the wife of the late Jacob Lewis.
Born in Lunenburg County, VA, January 22, 1920, she was the daughter of the late Luther and Lelia Wilkes Vaughan. Estelle was a member of Liberty Baptist Church and retired from the Appomattox Primary School as a Kindergarten aide in June 1984.
She is survived by six children, Luther Lewis and his wife, Helen, of Spout Spring, Katherine L. Poole and her husband, Robert, of Appomattox, Ray Lewis and his wife, Carolyn, of Greensboro, John Lewis and his wife, Barbara, of Lynchburg, Bill Lewis and his wife, Carla, of Appomattox and Nancy Lewis of Appomattox; two brothers, W. Lloyd Vaughan and his wife, Sarah, of Appomattox and J. Franklin Vaughan and his wife, Virginia, of Rustburg; three sisters-in-law, Mary Beth Vaughan, Estelle Vaughan, and Christine Vaughan; nine grandchildren, Eddie and Angela Lewis, Bob and Amy Poole, Tammy and Danny Joyce, Cindy and Mike Hamlett, Renee Lewis, Anita and Daniel Osborne, Brad and Janelle Lewis, Carrie Lewis, and Rebekah Lewis; eight great grandchildren, Chelsea, Cassie, and Shelby Joyce; Jacob, Daniel, and Sarah Poole; M. J. Hamlett, and Ayden Lewis; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by three brothers, James, Edwin and Sterling Vaughan.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 am, Friday, September 19, 2008, in Liberty Baptist Church by Dr. Robert Alderman and the Rev. Rusty Small. Burial will follow in Liberty Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at Robinson Funeral Home Thursday from 7-8:30 pm and other times at the residence.
