Estel Eugene Surface, 82, of Appomattox passed away on Monday, February 26, 2024, at his residence. He was twice married his first wife was the late Mary Surface and his second wife the late Brenda Mallard Surface.

Born on October 29, 1941, in West Virginia, he was the son of the late Clarence Surface and Marjorie Widner Surface. He was a retired superintendent from the Norfolk Naval Shipyard with 43 years of service. Estel was an avid woodworker creating crafts with Brenda and even building their log home. A lifetime hunter and fisherman. Hunting was his passion, deer, turkey, wild boar, squirrel, and dove alike feared him or so he would say. He was a member of Victory Baptist Church.

He is survived by three daughters, Marjorie Surface of VA, Margaret Hamill of NC, Wendy Burke and husband, Gary of Suffolk; four grandsons, Zachary Burke of Smithfield, Jordan Burke and wife, Hailey of Danville, Eric Tejada, and Morgan Hamill; two great-grandchildren, Aubree and Jaxson; and three sisters, Reva Fogleman and husband, Bill, Rita Morris, and Shirley Holdren.

A celebration of life service will be held 3 pm, Saturday, March 2, 2024, at Robinson Funeral Home with Pastor Jeff Worley officiating.
