Ernestine Belle Massey Carmody, 86, of Piney Mountain Rd., Appomattox, died Saturday, November 19, 2011, at her residence. She was the wife of the late Allen Leo Carmody, Sr.

Born in Campbell County, Arkansas, on March 10, 1925, she was the daughter of the late Dewey Benjamin and Ada Morrison Massey. Ernestine was a member New Hope Baptist Church where she served as a Sunday School Teacher, worked in the nursery, was a member of the W.M.U. and G.A.'s leader and a member of the Gideon Auxiliary.

She is survived by three sons and daughters-in-law, Allen Leo and Aleta Carmody of Chesapeake, Duane Dewey and Katherine Carmody of Forest, Michael Maurice and Tammie Carmody of Appomattox; one daughter, Rachel Carmody and Troy Harris of Goldsboro, NC; two sisters, Irene LeMarr of Marshall, Ark., and Maurdiece Passmore and husband, Daniel of Leslie, Ark.; eight grandchildren, Christopher Carmody, Ryan Carmody, Kelly Holland, Terri McCoy, Troy Harris, Jr., Michelle Layne, David Carmody, and Sean Carmody; 20 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a son, James Carmody; a brother, Willie Lee Massey; and a sister, Marcel Clark.

Funeral services will be held 10:00 a.m., on Wednesday, November 23, 2011 at New Hope Baptist Church by the Rev. Duane Carmody and the Rev. Ronnie Rogers with burial following in the church cemetery.

The family will receive friends at Robinson Funeral Home on Tuesday, Nov. 22, from 7-8:30 p.m.
