Obituary

Emory Marshall Woods, Sr. 71, of Appomattox, passed away, Friday, April 3, 2009. He was the husband of Shirley Martin Woods.
Born in Campbell Co., October 10, 1937, he was a son of the late Calvin C. Woods, Sr. and Irene Lee Woods. He was preceded in death by a son, Emory Marshall (EM) Woods, Jr., sister, Mary W. Skaggs, and brother, Calvin C. Woods, Jr.
Emory served his country as a member of the United States Army and he retired from the company he founded, Atwood Erectors.
Emory loved the outdoors and was an avid fisherman and gardener. He couldn't pass up a good bargain at a yard sale. He was a fan of local high school sports and loved all animals, especially his dog, Bentley. Playing his banjo, making music with his friends and spending time with his brothers were other favorite pastimes he had.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by two children; a son, Terry K. Woods and his wife, Kristi, Appomattox, and a daughter, Angela M. Goin and fiancé, Mike Drumheller, Forest; a sister and brother-in-law, Lois W. and Jimmy Kidd, Lynchburg; four brothers and sisters-in-law, Dewey and Ann Woods, Jack and Nancy Woods, Gary and Donna Woods, J.B. and Carolyn Woods, all of Appomattox; Eleven grandchildren, Lora W. and Joe Cartrett, Jenna Woods, Marshall Woods, Jamie Ranson, Joey Ranson, Jessie Goin, Janna Goin, Damien Woods, Brittany Woods, Bridgett Woods and Jordan woods; and three great grandchildren, Otis Cartrett, Keyonta Booker, and Kameron Booker.
A memorial Service will be held 10:00 am, Monday, April 6, 2009, at Appomattox Baptist Temple by the Rev. Ken Jenkins. A private burial will be held for the family at a later date.
The family will receive friends at the residence on Sunnydale Ave.
In lieu of flowers, the family request memorial contributions be made to the Appomattox County Rescue Squad, PO Box 57, Appomattox, VA 24522, or the American Heart Association, 2395 South Fork Rd., Appomattox, VA 24522
