Elwyn Adelbert, "ZYMO", Zimmerman, Jr., 81, of Bent Creek Rd., Concord, died Sunday, May 3, 2009, in McGuire VA Hospice Center in Richmond.
Born on October 29, 1927, in Hot Coal, West VA, he was the son of the late Elwyn Adelbert Zimmerman, Sr. and Lona Price Zimmerman. Elwyn was a member of Fairview Christian Church, the Fairview Christian Church Men's Fellowship, and the Virginia Happy Hearts Senior Citizens Center in Concord. He was a US Navy Veteran.
He is survived by his devoted wife of 56 years, W. May Brown Zimmerman; a son, James Elwyn Zimmerman of Concord; two daughters, Jo Anne Zimmerman Szczurak and her husband, Stephen of Thornton, Ill and Judy Zimmerman Gallagher and her husband, Joe of Richmond; two granddaughters, Elisabeth Szczurak of Thornton, Ill and Claire Gallagher of Richmond; three grandsons, David Szczurak of Thornton, Ill, Elwyn Duane Zimmerman of Lynchburg, and Zachary Zimmerman of Mayfield, KY; a step-grandson, Justin Crank of Lynchburg; a sister, Betty Zimmerman Poe of Beckley, WV; a brother-in-law, H. L. Rose of Myrtle Beach, SC; and a host of family and beloved friends in Appomattox, Lynchburg, and Beckley, WV.
He was preceded in death by two sisters, JoAnne Zimmerman and Dolly Zimmerman Rose and a daughter-in-law, Judy Busick Zimmerman.
Funeral services will be held 12:00 pm, Thursday, May 7, 2009, at Robinson Funeral Home by the Rev. Jack Hamilton. Burial will follow in Liberty Cemetery with military rites accorded by American Legion Post #104 and VFW #9855 combined honor guard.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the service and other times at the residence.
