Obituary

Elsie Bennett Meadows Ranson, 93, of Morton Lane, Appomattox, died Sunday, May 23, 2021 at her residence.  She was the loving wife of the late Thomas David Ranson.  Elsie was excited to not only meet her Heavenly Father but her earthy father who died prior to her birth.

Born in Appomattox County, May 15, 1928, she was a daughter of the late Annie Young and William Bennett Meadows.  Elsie was a member of Evergreen United Methodist Church, and she accepted Jesus Christ at a young age.  Her passion was making a home with Tom, the love of her life and raising their three children.  They were married for 63 years prior to his death.  After their children were grown, Elsie was a Pink Lady at Lynchburg General Hospital for over a decade working in the mailroom.  Along with birdwatching, she enjoyed jigsaw puzzles, completing over 50 the last few years of her life.  Elsie's nine grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren were a source of great love and pride.

She is survived by three children, Gloria Richardson and husband, Kenneth, Ronnie Ranson and wife, Cindy and Nancy Dawson and husband, Ronnie; nine grandchildren, Kenny Richardson and wife, Kim, Danny Richardson and wife, Adele, Matt Richardson and wife, Jamie, Rhonda Crowley and husband, Jim, David Ranson and wife, Crystal, Angie Dillon and husband, Chris, Jamee Prewitt and husband, Jeremy, Jake Dawson and wife, Laura, Brooke Hayden and husband, J; 18 great-grandchildren, Cole Richardson, Cassidy Richardson, Noah Richardson, Caleb Richardson, Camden Richardson, Bailey Richardson, Virginia Richardson, Jimmy Crowley, Breanna Crowley, Kayla Crowley, Brennan Ranson, Bennett Ranson, Adam Dillon, Zach Dillon, Nate Dillon, Emma Dawson, Julian Dawson and Christian Dawson; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her brother, Robert Meadows; three sisters, Hettie Davis, Helen Peterson and Louise McCormick; and her life-long friend Virginia Dare Franklin, Tom's first cousin.

A private family graveside will be held in Evergreen Community Cemetery.

Friends are invited by the home of Ronnie and Cindy Ranson, from 5 until 7 pm., Thursday, May 27, 2021 for a time of fellowship and visitation.

The family would like to express thanks to Valerie, Nancy G., Shelly and Daisy for their special care given and with loving appreciation to Geraldine McCoy who became a part of our family.  Diann Pickett, her hospice nurse went beyond the call of duty.
