Ella Evelyn Roach Taylor, 94, of Pamplin, died Thursday, June 15, 2023.  She was the wife of the late Lloyd Wilson Taylor for 61 years.

Born in Charlotte County, October 6, 1928, she was a daughter of the late Martha Clara Davis and Willie Anderson Roach.  She received her education at Darlington Heights Elementary School and Worsham High School.  Evelyn worked at Burlington Mill in Drakes Branch for 22 years.  She became a Licensed Practical Nurse and later a Registered Nurse, graduating from J. Sargeant Reynolds school of nursing in Richmond, Virginia.  Evelyn worked as a nurse at Southside Community Hospital until retirement in 2008.

She is survived by her daughter, Brenda Taylor Dempsey of Pamplin; one sister, Gladys R. Locks of Macon, GA; two grandchildren, Roxanne Catron and husband, Walter and Benjamin Dempsey and wife, Tiffany; and a great-granddaughter, Marissa Dempsey.

She was preceded in death by her infant sister, Betty Roach; a brother Willie Carlton Roach and his twin sister, Elsie Roach Finch; son-in-law, Orville Lindell Dempsey; and Waggin her beloved companion.

A graveside service will be held 11 a.m., Monday, June 19, 2023, in Centenary Cemetery with Rev. Norman Ramsey officiating.
