Elizabeth Harris Hackett, 64, of Vera Lane, Appomattox, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, September 14, 2014. She was the youngest daughter of the late Anna Ferguson and Tandy Douglas Harris, born on September 17, 1949.
Elizabeth leaves behind her husband of 45 years, Bruce Wayne Hackett; three children and their spouses, Angela and Dale Lewis, Brent and Stacy Hackett, and Karla and Ryan Atkins all of Appomattox; five grandchildren, Celeste Lewis, Frank Lewis, Kalynn Lewis, Laurynn Hackett, and Brenley Hackett who will miss their "Nana" very much; three sisters and a brother-in-law, Anna Ferguson, Nellie Martin, and Juanita and Ashby Milstead; and seven brothers and sisters-in-law, Lewis and Marilyn Harris, Tandy and Elna Harris, Keith and Nancy Harris, John (Pete) and Brenda Harris, Clyde and Mary Harris, MacArthur Harris, and Ernest and Lucy Harris. She will always be fondly remembered as "Georgie Buck" to the Harris family, a nickname given by her father.
She was preceded in death by a grandson, Bryce Tyler Lewis; two sisters, Millie Sieglitz and Ruby H. Barnes; and two brothers, William Walker (Brown) Harris and Norman Burge (Cracker) Harris.
For 32 years Liz co-owned Hackett's Chainsaw Sales with her husband. She was a dedicated and committed member of the Vera Church of God where for many years she served as clerk. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother, and grandmother who always made her family a priority. Her greatest joy was celebrating her families' accomplishments and making holidays so special. We will miss our times of debate and laughter around the Sunday dinner table.
She had a servant's heart and an unselfish spirit, always concerned about the needs of others. She devoted many years as a loving caregiver to her mother and father-in-law, Dorothy and Hampton Hackett and her sister brother-in-law, Millie and Heinz Sieglitz.
The family will receive friends from 7-8:30 p.m., Tuesday, September 16, at Robinson Funeral Home and other times at the residence.
A funeral service will be held 3:00 p.m., Wednesday, September 17, 2014, at the Vera Church of God by Rev. Jeremy Day and Rev. Rickey Hackett. Burial will follow in the Hackett Family Cemetery.
