Shortly after her birth, the family settled in Binghamton, N.Y. After graduating from St. Patrick's Academy in 1934 and attending business school, Betty was employed by Sissons Department Store. It was there she met Theodore Budd. After a seven year courtship, they were married on Valentine's Day, February 14, 1942. Two months after the wedding, her husband was drafted into World War II. When he returned in 1945, the couple made their home in Deposit, N.Y.

Betty also enjoyed doing ceramics for over forty years. She painted in fine detail and loved giving her works to the family and friends she loved.
In 2007 Betty relocated to Virginia where she resided with her daughter, Carolyn Maples, until the time of her death. Betty was predeceased by her husband in 2002. She was also predeceased by her five siblings and their spouses: Dr. John (Jeanne) O'Conner, Anne (John) Mullen, Sally O'Connor, Margaret (Vincent) Goodman and Helen (John) Updike; and sisters-in-law, Gladys Budd Merges and Aleta Budd Stewart.
