Obituary

Elbert Lee (Teany) Williamson, 92, of Police Tower Road, Appomattox, died Friday, August 4, 2017, at his residence. He was the husband of the late Ruby Rogers Williamson for 72 years.

Born in Appomattox County, Va., on August 3, 1925, he was a son of the late Ruth Marsh and William Lee Williamson. He was a member of Red Oak Baptist Church and the Appomattox Cattleman's Association. At 18, he was drafted into the US Navy and served on LST 595 in the Pacific Theater. He crossed the equator 12 times while serving in World War II. On October 20, 1947, he started working for Lynchburg Transit where he was employed for 43 years, retiring on October 20, 1989,

He is survived by four children, LeRoy Williamson and wife, Rosa of Lynchburg, Brenda W. Coleman and husband, Ronnie of Appomattox, Barbara W. Falwell and husband, Terry of Lynchburg, and Susan W. Phelps; 10 grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Elizabeth Williamson; a brother-in-law, Berkley Cabaniss; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, William H. (Bill) Williamson and Mervyn Williamson and his wife, Rhoda and three sisters, Nell Cabaniss, Melva Williamson, and Audrey Phelps and her husband, Everette.

The family would like to thank Centra Hospice of Farmville and his caregivers, Dianne Marsh, Diann Pickett, and Janice Marshall for their loving care of Teany.

A graveside funeral service will be held 11 a.m., Tuesday, August 8, 2017, at Old Herman Methodist Church by the Rev. Chris Kesler and the Rev. Tom Barker.

In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials be made to the Appomattox Rescue Squad, PO Box 57, Appomattox, VA 24522 or the Farmville Centra Hospice, 713 Oak Lane, Farmville, VA 23901.
