Edward Eugene "Gene" Parsons, 93, of Oakville Road, Appomattox, died Saturday, January 6, 2018, at Appomattox Health and Rehabilitation Center. He was the husband of Lorena St. John Parsons for 67 years.

Born in Pennington Gap, Lee County, Va., he was the first and last living child to the late Mary Kathleen Stapleton and John Rhea Parsons. He was a World War II Navy Veteran and retired from Burlington Industries in Drakes Branch. After retirement, Gene enjoyed refinishing furniture.

In addition to his wife he is survived by three children, Roland Parsons and wife, Betty of Holly Springs, N.C., Reid and Carol Parsons and Rhenda Parsons Hamlett all of Appomattox; seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren, Tonya Parsons of Cary, N.C., Stacy Parsons Hackett and husband, Brent and their daughters, Laurynn and Brenley all of Appomattox, Damon Parsons and wife, Aimee of Forest, Chase Parsons of Charlotte C.H., Jesse Parsons Perrone and husband, Dana of Gum Springs, Va., Rebecca Hamlett of Appomattox, and Aaron Hamlett of Amherst; a daughter-in-law, Debbie Brown Parsons of Randolph; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by an infant son; a son, Randall O. Parsons; a brother, Wayne Parsons; and three sisters, Sue Parsons Hancock, Dorothy Parsons Carter, and Marie Parsons Jackson Kirby.

A graveside funeral service will be officiated by Rev. Rusty Small at 2 p.m., Tuesday, January 9, 2017, in Concord Baptist Church, 202 Taro Rd., Cullen.

The family will receive friends on Monday, January 8, 2018 from 2 until 5 at his home.
