Easley Rhoades Shuford Ferguson
Appomattox: Mrs. Easley Ferguson was born in 1926 in Charlotte Co., but moved to Florida when an infant. Her parents were Clydie Holt Shuford and Jacob Rhoades Shuford. Mrs. Ferguson was fortunate to have grown up in a very small town in Florida where a piano conservatory graduate taught her for 12 years. Her teacher had studied with the great musician Lechetisky. After high school, she attended the Sherwood Conservatory of Music, and James Madison University, taking advantage of any teacher musician available to her.
Mrs. Ferguson was a talented pianist and greatfully shared her love of music with others, teaching piano in Appomattox for over 50 years and sharing her talent with many cities and counties. Her policy was to never charge for funerals, weddings, church, or other events. Sharing her piano knowledge and ability was her contribution to society.
Mrs. Ferguson was preceded in death by her husband of 51 years, Murrell Ferguson, Sr., her sister, Gwendolyn S. King and niece, Maria King Ayers.
Mrs. Ferguson is survived by one son, Dr. Richard M. Ferguson, Jr., and his wife, Jill McCallister Ferguson, of Danville, a great niece and nephew, and several cousins.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 AM, Monday, January 14, 2008 at Robinson Funeral Home, with the Rev. George Schaefer, officiating. Burial will follow in Liberty Cemetery.
The family will receive friends Sunday from 2:00 to 4:00 PM at the funeral home.
