Ernest (Dooley) Franklin McCormick, 72, of Oakville Rd., Gladstone, died Friday, October 4, 2013, in Lynchburg General Hospital. He was the husband of Ann Baker McCormick for 52 years.

Born in Buckingham County, Va., on April 12, 1941, he was a son of the late Virginia Ann Phelps and William Douglas McCormick. He was owner of E. F. McCormick and Sons Logging. Dooley loved the outdoors and especially enjoyed hunting, fishing, and raising a garden.

In addition to his wife, Ann, he is survived by three sons, Frankie McCormick and wife, Jennifer, Keith McCormick and Susanne Brent all of Appomattox, Greg McCormick and Laurel Knaup of Gladstone; a daughter, Janet M. Franklin and husband, Mark of Spout Spring; two brothers, Emmitt Terry McCormick of Lovingston and Bailey Duvall (B. D. ) McCormick, Sr. of Gladstone; two sisters, Betty Jean Doss of Missouri and Shirley Robertson of Gladstone; 11 grandchildren, one great grandchild; numerous nieces and nephews; and his hunting, fishing, and gardening buddies, Stanley (Deedle) Gunner, Johnny (Alabama) Harris and Kenneth (Worley Bird) Worley.

He was preceded in death by four brothers, one sister, and one grandchild.

The family will receive friends at Robinson Funeral Home, Monday, Oct. 7, 2013, from 6-8:00 p.m. and other times at the residence.

Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, October 8, 2013, at Robinson Funeral Home by Pastor Jerry Childress. Burial will follow in the McCormick Family Cemetery.
