Douglas L. Padgett, 72, of Spout Spring, died Saturday, March 12, 2016 in Virginia Baptist Hospital. He was the loving husband of Relia Orange Padgett for almost 50 years.
Born in Bedford, August 7, 1943, he was the son of the late Annie Arthur and Winston Padgett. Doug was a member of Hyland Heights Baptist Church. He was an engineer with VDOT for 21 years and Schwartz & Associates for 18 years.
In addition to his wife he is survived by four daughters, Lynn Shorter and husband, Kenny, Cindy Martin and husband, Terry, Suzanne Gunter and husband, Danny all of Appomattox, Leslie Shaffer and Dallas Jordan of Roanoke; one brother, Roy Padgett and wife, Myra of Concord; one sister, Carolyn Graves of Mississippi; seven grandchildren, Casey Martin, Chandler Martin, Tanner Gunter, Caleb Gunter, Noah Gunter, Aiden Gunter and Addison Gunter.
He was preceded in death by three brothers, Glenn Padgett, Andrew Padgett and Reid Padgett; and two sisters, Jeanette Padgett and Glenna Wray.
Funeral Services will be held at 1 p.m., Tuesday, March 15, 2016 at Hyland Heights Baptist Church, Lynchburg, with the Pastor Carl Weiser and Pastor Robert E. Lee, Jr., officiating. Burial will be held at 3 p.m., in Liberty Cemetery, Appomattox.
The family will receive friends from 11a.m., until time of service at Hyland Heights Baptist Church and other times at the residence of Lynn and Kenny Shorter.
