Obituary

Dorothy Chambers Oliver, 87, of Lynchburg, died peacefully at her home in Lynchburg on June 13, 2014. She was the loving wife of Leonard Waugh Oliver for sixty-one years.

She was born in Red House, Virginia on May 9, 1927 and was the daughter of the late Thomas Harold Chambers and Gaynell Reynolds Chambers. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased in death by her brother, Thomas Harold Chambers, Jr. and her sister, Elizabeth Chambers Chumney.

She graduated from Longwood College and began teaching elementary school in Lynchburg. After marrying Le
onard, his Air Force travels took them to numerous states where she continued teaching until they both retired to Red House. She was a lifetime member of Providence Baptist Church and served as the church pianist and organist for more than 25 years. She served in numerous other capacities, always faithful in her commitment to her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. After she and her husband moved to Lynchburg in 2007, they attended Calvary Baptist Church and she was grateful for all her caring friends in that loving community.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by her daughter, Susan Gaynelle Oliver and her brother, John William Chambers.

Funeral services will be held on June 15, 2014 at 2:00 pm at Providence Baptist Church in Red House Virginia by Pastor Alden Hicks with burial to follow in the Church's cemetery. The family will receive friends before the service and after the burial.

Memorial contributions may be made in her memory to the Cemetery Fund at Providence Baptist Church, 1055 Lawyers Road, Red House, Virginia 23963 and to Calvary Baptist Church, 20957 Timberlake Road, Lynchburg, Virginia 24502.
